
Director of Information Technology
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced, execution-oriented Director of Information Technology to lead all technology functions for a rapidly growing healthcare startup. This role combines strategic vision with hands-on oversight across infrastructure, cybersecurity, compliance, and vendor management. The ideal candidate understands the unique challenges of healthcare technology — including regulatory compliance, data privacy, and operational uptime — and will partner closely with a Managed Service Provider (MSP) to deliver world-class support and reliability.

Key Responsibilities
Technology Strategy & Leadership
• Develop and execute an IT roadmap aligned with the company’s healthcare mission, regulatory requirements, and growth strategy.• Establish scalable systems and processes to support clinical operations, pharmacy systems, telehealth, and administrative functions.
• Serve as the primary liaison between business leadership and the MSP for technology operations, ensuring alignment on SLAs, priorities, and escalation paths.
• Evaluate and deploy new technologies to support patient engagement, data analytics, interoperability, and automation.
Infrastructure & Operations
• Oversee all core infrastructure including networks, cloud environments (Microsoft 365, Azure/AWS), and business continuity/disaster recovery solutions.• Manage MSP performance, ensuring prompt and effective delivery of Level 1 and Level 2 end-user support.
• Provide internal hands-on leadership for Level 3 escalations, architecture design, and high-impact troubleshooting.
• Maintain system uptime, security posture, and cost efficiency across all IT environments.
Cybersecurity, Privacy & Compliance
• Lead development and enforcement of policies aligned with HIPAA, HITECH, and state data privacy laws.• Oversee implementation of security controls, incident response procedures, vulnerability management, and annual risk assessments.
• Partner with compliance, legal, and operations teams to maintain readiness for audits, certifications (e.g., HITRUST, SOC 2), and payor data-access requirements.
• Manage identity and access control, endpoint protection, and encryption across all systems.
Applications & Integrations
• Oversee core healthcare and business applications such as EHR/EMR, pharmacy management systems, e-prescribing, CRM, HRIS, and ERP tools.• Ensure secure integration and data flow between clinical and administrative systems.
• Evaluate SaaS vendors for scalability, security, and alignment with operational needs.
Vendor & MSP Management
• Serve as the primary interface to the Managed Service Provider for service delivery, incident management, and capacity planning.• Negotiate and manage vendor contracts, budgets, and performance metrics.
• Establish governance processes and dashboards for SLA reporting, incident trends, and root-cause analysis.
Team Development
• Build internal capability over time by identifying key IT roles to transition from the MSP or supplement with specialized expertise.• Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across IT and the broader organization.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline (Master’s preferred).• 8+ years of progressive IT experience, with at least 3 years in a healthcare or regulated industry.
• Proven success managing MSPs and third-party vendors.
• Deep understanding of HIPAA compliance, PHI data handling, and healthcare technology ecosystems.
• Experience with Microsoft 365, Azure/AWS, EHR/EMR platforms, and cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, HITRUST).
• Hands-on technical proficiency and the ability to lead by example.
• Strong communication, contract management, and project leadership skills.
